POSITION SUMMARY
This corporate position serves as a mid to senior level environmental services professional in a key role to provide environmental guidance, training, and technical advisory support to USG Manufacturing operations, business units and other corporate departments such as engineering, legal, strategy, real estate, sourcing, innovation center, and safety. The goal of this position is to ensure alignment with the corporation’s objectives to minimize liabilities while managing risk and sustaining environmental regulatory compliance. This position includes responsibilities for project oversight of strategic environmental reserves and capital projects, and leadership in implementing corporate and departmental environmental priorities. Position requires proactive engagement and managing productive relationships with internal contacts and outside contractors, consultants, attorneys, responsible parties and regulatory agencies. Position is based in the Chicago corporate office, with remote work opportunities available according to company policy.
Key aspects of the position cover project management skills, strategic technical planning and guidance to environmental project staff. This is a “hands on” position that will involve assigned projects as well as directing additional professional resources. This position requires technical competency with the ability to provide guidance and general support across all environmental media (air, water, waste, and land) with a focus on air permitting.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Regulatory Compliance Accountability
· Ensure environmental and regulatory compliance on all USG projects managed.
· Assist in the development and implementation of environmental guidance information and tools in alignment with applicable regulations and internal company requirements.
· Serve as an internal environmental (multi-media) professional providing USG facilities and management with compliance, technical, and operational guidance in all facets of the business (operational, due diligence, transactional, and closure/divestiture).
· Lead assigned multi-media environmental audits of USG manufacturing facilities including preparation of audits reports and supporting the facilities in implementing corrective actions based on audit findings.
· Evaluate new raw materials for environmental impacts and provide recommendations of the environmental requirements for material use including impact on permitting and regulatory reporting.
Manufacturing Support
· Provide guidance to USG Engineering and Manufacturing regarding environmental permits required for new and modified manufacturing operations. Assist in obtaining and reviewing required permits.
· Assist in negotiations with Federal, State and local regulatory agencies for the resolution of non-compliance matters or agreed orders, permitting challenges, agency inspections and remediation cleanup to obtain no further action or return to compliance.
· Provide web based and in person compliance training and oversight to corporate departments and plant management as assigned.
· Participation in sustainability efforts or initiatives at USG that would result in demonstrable reductions in pollution, waste, energy, or water usage via resource conservation efforts and alternative technologies development.
· Manage remediation and/or environmental closure activities associated with historic USG manufacturing locations.
Fiduciary Responsibility
· Oversee and control spending by internal and external resources on assigned environmental projects.
· Accountable for the expenditure of significant dollars by internal and external environmental professionals and attorneys.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
Education
· Bachelor’s degree (Engineering or Sciences strongly preferred).
Years of Experience
· Minimum of 10-15 years of escalating professional experience within the manufacturing industry and possibly environmental consulting including 5+ years of professional management experience. (Environmental and project management experience preferred).

· Environmental competency with the ability to provide guidance and support covering all environmental media (air, water, waste, and land) with a focus on air permitting.
· Technically knowledgeable of environmental regulations and requirements (state, federal, and possibly international such as Canada and Latin America).
· Key computer skills include managing documents, creating spreadsheets, designing presentations, and using collaboration tools like Teams.
· Ability to work without supervision, at times remotely and on confidential projects.
· Ability to work in, maintain, and build upon an effective team environment.
· Applicable work experience in the operations of a manufacturing plant.
· Position requires the ability to travel up to 25%.
Preferred Skills
· Proficient in several business disciplines including management, strategy, manufacturing, and accounting.
· Knowledgeable in the development and delivery of environmental training programs.
· Previous environmental consulting experience.
Rate of pay may be adjusted based on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
