The digital transformation includes upgrading our technology stack and augmenting our teams, developing new digital platforms, and integrating a best-in-class eCommerce operating model to deliver exceptional customer experience from design planning to order delivery. The digital services are based on to be improved data and process models and will be provided for all our customers in the US, Canada, and LATAM.
ROLE SUMMARY
The Technology Lead is responsible for the technical implementation and ongoing development of USG’s customer portal and eCommerce capabilities, ensuring customers have access to consistent and accurate inventory, pricing, order, and account information through an exceptional user interface. This role oversees the development of self-service account management and eCommerce functionality, including shopping cart, checkout, order fulfillment, and order history. It also includes managing integrations with USG’s commerce platform to deliver a seamless user experience. The Technology Lead has a strong passion for development and a demonstrated appetite for continual learning.
USG offers a hybrid workplace. The office location is Chicago, IL. Minimal travel may be required.
DEFINITION OF THE TEAM
The Customer Portal and eCommerce team is dedicated to delivering a superior eCommerce experience and driving both conversion rates and customer satisfaction. By combining business and IT expertise, the team is responsible for advancing myusg.com as a critical customer platform and managing the data customers rely on to make informed purchasing decisions, including account information and transactions. In this agile environment, the team works cohesively, guided by a Product Owner and the Technology Lead, to ensure seamless execution and continuous improvement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical implementation: Lead and enable the technical implementation of eCommerce technologies and platforms, ensuring robust, scalable, and high-performing solutions. Develop, optimize, and maintain high-performing shopping cart and checkout experiences that drive user engagement and conversion rates by designing for great user experiences. Lead the migration from our legacy Salesforce Commerce Cloud powered eCommerce site to a modern Next.js/React implementation
Integration and management: Ensure seamless integration of eCommerce and customer identity technologies, including the commerce platform, CRM systems, identity and access management services, and analytics tools. Manage technical aspects of platform performance and customer account management, including tracking, reporting, and data analysis
Collaboration and coordination: Work closely with marketing, design, and development teams to ensure alignment and successful execution of go-to-market initiatives
Project management: Lead technical projects from conception to completion, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to quality standards. Coordinate with external vendors and partners as needed to implement and optimize marketing and eCommerce technologies
Team decision making: Encourage team-level decision making, make final decisions when needed, and escalate decisions that impact multiple teams or the broader transformation
Documentation and compliance: Maintain comprehensive documentation for technical processes, integrations, and systems. Ensure compliance with relevant data protection regulations and industry standards
Technical guidance and management: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to development teams, ensuring best practices are followed to meet business commitments on time and with quality
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information technology, or a related field
Master’s degree or additional certifications in web development is a plus
Experience in marketing technology, eCommerce, IAM or related areas is a plus
5+ years of experience leading software development, management of technical resources, and transformation project experience
Extensive experience as a delivery and people leader and further as hands-on, technical individual contributor
Minimum 3-5 years experience as a developer
Required Skills
Deep experience with marketing technology platforms, including CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce) and CMS (e.g., Adobe, Contentful)
Deep experience with eCommerce technology platforms (e.g. commercetools, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, Spryker)
Proven experience in integrating various marketing and eCommerce technologies, including familiarity with API integrations and data synchronization between different systems
Deep understanding of MACH (Microservices, API-first, Cloud-native, and Headless) architecture
Expertise in optimizing eCommerce cart and checkout experiences for performance, speed, and conversion rates
Experience with A/B testing, multivariate testing, and other optimization methodologies
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues
Excellent collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
Excellent project management skills with the ability to lead technical projects and coordinate with cross-functional teams
Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and guide development teams
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Knowledge of microservices architecture and serverless computing
Preferred Skills
Familiarity with advanced marketing automation tools/platforms and their application within a B2B marketing context
Experience with data streaming and the producer/consumer pattern
Experience with Oracle EBS and EDI integrations
Rate of pay may be adjusted based on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
