SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR
POSITION SUMMARY
The Systems Administrator is responsible for installing and maintaining server environments running Microsoft Windows. Support extends to other 3rd party Windows-based applications servicing critical business functions at USG Data Centers, Corporate Headquarters, Corporate Innovation Center, and Manufacturing Plants. The Systems Administrator will assist in all facets of infrastructure lifecycle management, and perform activities such as server builds, hardware installation, virtualization, data backup/recovery, disaster recovery, patching, and system security.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Participate as a member of a team that works collaboratively to ensure infrastructure and operating systems are available and function properly to support business applications.
• Document procedures and update standards for new or modified systems and environments.
• Respond to system alerts and participate in 24x7 rotation of after-hours on-call support.
• Review security notifications/alerts and deploy updates if deemed necessary.
• Gather and evaluate performance/capacity metrics and report on key measurements.
• Proactively monitor systems to identify hardware and software problems and provide solutions prior to system failures.
• Architect and implement solutions to business challenges and new business opportunities.
• Prepare for disaster recovery and ensure that appropriate backups are completed and tested.
• Troubleshoot software, hardware, and network failures.
• Execute Proof of Concepts for new software and hardware solutions.
• Establish and maintain security and integrity controls.
• Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
• Works under minimal supervision, relying on experience and judgement to plan and accomplish assigned goals
• Performs at a level clearly above that of the related Technical Specialists by demonstrating greater productivity, proficiency, leadership and mastery of job content
• Technical Lead on small to large projects; participates as subject matter expert in projects of all sizes
• Excellent problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong ability to document processes, configurations, and procedures clearly and concisely
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members and stakeholders
Education
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience)
Experience/Requirements
• A minimum of 6 years of IT Operations background.
• Experience in managing virtualization platforms (i.e. Hyper-V, Vmware).
• Experience in configuring and managing Active Directory, Domain Controllers, Group Policy, and DNS.
• Experience with Exchange, M365, mail flow, and SMTP.
• Proficiency in Power Shell and automation scripting to create, modify and execute scripts. Ansible experience is a plus.
• Experience with Proofpoint or other email protection systems.
• Experience with implementation and management of hyper-converged infrastructure.
• Experience in implementing and managing enterprise-scale backup and recovery solutions to ensure data integrity and business continuity.
• Understanding of project management methodologies (Scrum, Agile). Jira experience is a plus.
• Proficient at implementation and support of Virtual Desktop Infrastructure running Windows Operating Systems.
• Familiarity with operating system file hierarchy structure, command line interface and network services.
• Working knowledge of the Linux operating system is a plus.
• Location of the position is Chicago HQ
Rate of pay may be adjusted based on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
