Industrial Electrician
Location: Bridgeport, AL
Pay Range: $26.22-$39.29
Job Summary:
The Maintenance Electrician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical equipment and systems across all USG Bridgeport production areas. Key responsibilities include working with transformers, wiring systems, control devices, circuit protection equipment, and PLCs. This role requires strict adherence to all safety policies and procedures while delivering timely, high-quality workmanship to support reliable and efficient plant operations.
Role & Responsibilities:
· Prompt reporting of any significant abnormalities that may cause personal harm, downtime, or damage to equipment.
· Use equipment manuals, technical documents, and drawings for guidance on electrical equipment or devices for: set up, adjustments, calibrations, assembly, operation, troubleshooting, programming, repair, replacement, and identification of spare parts needed for current or planned repairs.
· Ensure all electrical cabinets, enclosures, disconnects, junction boxes, and conduit fittings are kept clean, organized, and securely closed when not actively being worked in or on.
· Correctly and safely use electrical testing equipment to diagnose production equipment or system malfunctions.
· Utilize and follow the National Electric Code when installing, replacing, or repairing electrical equipment or systems.
· Follow NFPA70e guidance and procedures concerning Arc Flash equipment, clothing, and practices.
· Utilize standard and proper techniques, tools, and procedures to dismantle, assemble, adjust, rebuild, and repair production electrical equipment and systems.
· Respond to equipment breakdowns, analyze the problem, determine the cause, and execute the repair to safely and efficiently return the equipment to service ensuring any required follow-up is communicated to the supervisor.
· Fully and correctly complete all required documentation in either paper or electronic format providing sufficient details of the activity or needed follow-up.
· Use of the EAM for performance of PM activities, repair work creation or completion, follow up work order generation, equipment and parts research, and other activities to maximize the utilization of the system and documentation of maintenance activities.
· Participate in Root Cause Analysis activities to identify downtime causes and implement corrective actions to prevent or limit recurrences.
· Provide input for the determination of needs related to critical spare parts, special tools, and equipment to ensure the highest level of reliability of production equipment.
· As needed, work with cross functional teams to explore production or quality issues to determine countermeasures as part of Continuous Improvement efforts.
· Maintain a clean work environment in accordance with the 5S and safety guidelines.
· Assist with or perform all other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements:
· High school diploma or GED required/formal technical education & training preferred
· Must have the desired technical skills to safely and proficiently work as an electrician in a plant setting.
· Possess Strong mechanical aptitude
· Ability to interpret and perform tasks as detailed on printed work orders.
· Basic computer skills needed to complete safety training and review work-related email.
· Ability to operate equipment as needed, including forklifts, etc.
· Familiar with common hand tools and how to properly use them.
· Good collaboration skills and ability to work as part of a team.
· Must be willing to attend training to further increase knowledge of complex electrical equipment elements such as PLC’s, VFD’s, sensors, HMI’s, robotics, proportional controls devices, and transducers. (possible overnight travel for training)
· Ability to use electrical testing equipment such as digital volt meters, amp meters and probes, meggers, and calibration tools.
· Ability to rotate occasional after-hour calls
Rate of pay may be adjusted based on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
