Quarry Heavy Diesel Equipment Mechanic

The Quarry heavy diesel equipment mechanic position is a challenging opportunity for a motivated individual to demonstrate their ability to multitask, work as a team within a fast-paced mining environment. Reporting to the Quarry Maintenance Supervisor, the successful candidate ensures operation of heavy diesel mobile and stationary equipment by completing preventive maintenance and repair requirements on mobile equipment, hydraulic systems, conveyor systems, and crushing systems.
Basic Accountabilities:
- Mechanical / technical skills of the following, but not limited to; mechanics, lubrication, maintenance documentation, pumps, bearings, piping systems, welding/cutting (stick, mig, tig and torch), etc.
- Hydraulic power transmission skills of the following but not limited to; basic hydraulics, hydraulic troubleshooting.
- Willing to work nights and weekends when necessary and available for overtime and call-ins as required.
- Able to repair various pieces of mining equipment including, but not limited to, excavators, loaders, and haul trucks, stationary crushing and conveying equipment.
- Conduct daily maintenance operations of the Quarry, assist in the implementation of safety programs and maintain/contribute to production levels through improved equipment availabilities.
- Complete all required MSHA and OSHA reporting and compliance requirements. Must be able to follow all federal, state and local regulations.
- Follow diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications.
- Provide mechanical maintenance information by answering questions, requests and completing feedback documentation after troubleshooting and repairs.
- Able to learn equipment operation and repair from on-site instruction and self-study.
- Efficiently and safely troubleshoot malfunctions on mining equipment by locating sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision testing instruments.
- Safely remove defective parts by using hoists, cranes, and hand /power tools.
- Determine changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts; using tape measures, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
- Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments by using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.
- Maintain equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed items while following and understanding the check out and flow of parts from the storeroom.
- Maintain continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
- Maintain safety and housekeeping in all activities.
Required Qualifications:

- Regularly sitting, talking, listening, standing, walking, and reaching with hands and arms.
- Occasionally climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
- Must consistently demonstrate an understanding of all safety rules, standards, and programs.
- Must have a safe work history, ability to safely operate mining equipment, and plant vehicles.
- Must maintain regular and predictable attendance.
- Possess the skills to efficiently and safely operate and troubleshoot malfunctions on heavy diesel mobile equipment, stationary crushing and conveying equipment to evaluate mechanical problems and communicate pertinent information.
- Experience following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications.
- Responsible for maintaining a set of personal tools as specified in the operator rate program.
- Must have prior work experience as a mobile equipment mechanic, preferably in a quarry environment.
Pay rate: $30.30/hour - $36.30/hour
Rate of pay may be adjusted based on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
