Continuous Improvement (CI) Leader 1

Primary Function:
This position is responsible for driving and/or supporting workplace organization, such as 5S, Project Home, and basic problem solving within all departments (Engineering, Production, Reliability/Technical, and Supply Chain) – a minimum of 70% of time will be dedicated to these events. The CI Leader will support/attend department Reflection Meetings and Gemba Walks (as needed) to provide open communication on events. The CI Leader will work closely with plant management to achieve annual CI performance goals. It will be expected that the leader acts as a coach and catalyst to develop a lean culture – basic training on the USG CI Management System, Lean Six Sigma, and Reliability Performance Model will be provided for development. This role will report to the Process Improvement Manager or Lead position.

Leadership
- Ensures two-way open communication throughout the plant for all CI efforts.
- Must be able to give/receive critical feedback based on direct observations and data.

- Must work effectively with a cross-functional team and people over whom he/she has no authority.
Teamwork
- Actively participates/collaborates with team members to enhance team's effectiveness.
- Must be able to influence, negotiate, and resolve conflicts to reach consensus around common goals.
- Build cooperative relationships and ensure continuing development of skills in this area.
Decision Making & Problem Solving
- Follows lean plan-do-check-act (PDCA) and CI methodologies.
- Gathers and analyzes information to formulate actions.
- Carefully weighs the consequences of contemplated action.
- Meet with process owners and others that will be affected by the change to seek buy-in and direct input.
Administrative & Organizational Skills
- Strong written and verbal communication.
- Facilitates and/or leads kaizen process; both event-based and daily kaizen.
- Goal oriented, persistent, and driven to achieve objectives.
Safety, Quality, and Cost
- Perform all duties with safety in mind and actively participate in all safety programs.
- Attend Reflection Meetings and conduct Gemba Walk and discuss findings to realign safety expectations, distribution priorities, work orders, housekeeping, continuous improvement work, etc. Follow-up items are tracked on department reflection and accountability boards.
Qualifications:
Education & Work Experience
- College degree is a plus but not required.
- General knowledge in manufacturing and lean six sigma (LSS), or equivalent is desired for the position. Internal candidates must have at least 2 years’ experience with USG.
- Leadership experience is a plus but not required.
Required Skills
- Self-starter, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to handle multiple priorities effectively.
- Business-minded, people and results oriented, with a strong emphasis on safety and quality.
- Strong project management skills: team/self-management, strategic orientation, verbal communication, time management.
- Basic use of Microsoft Suites (Outlook, Excel, Word, Etc.) or equivalent.
Rate of pay may be adjusted based on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
