Environmental Compliance Supervisor

Primary Function:
Maintaining Otsego Paper’s existing environmental permits, supervising the waste treatment operators and operation, and working with others throughout the facility to maintain environmental compliance.
Basic Requirements:
Safety
- Understand and observe all plant safety rules
- Ensure the compliance of all waste treatment operators with safety rules
- Must be able to perform this job safely and actively participate in all safety programs. Understand your surroundings and the potential dangers within your work areas
Operations
- Perform duties as assigned by the Engineering Manager
- Otsego employees will occasionally have to work overtime. As with all positions at the plant, overtime is mandatory and regular and predictable attendance is an essential factor
Job Procedures and Requirements:
- Must be able to perform this job safely. Understand your surroundings and the potential dangers within your work areas
- Must be able to enter, update and investigate safety incidents in CORE in a timely manner
- Responsible for all waste treatment operations including:
- Supervision of two sludge press operators and one waste treatment operator
- Oversight of waste treatment process health
- Completion of Monthly Safety Packets, Quarterly Incentive Packets, Weekly Safety Reports, Timecard Approvals, Vacation Scheduling, and Housekeeping Reports
- Maintenance of Visual Work Instructions, LOTOs, and confined spaces of waste treatment
- Facilitation of regular equipment and grounds maintenance in waste treatment areas
- Responsible for mill-wide, state-mandated environmental compliance including:
- Providing support, guidance, and training to other mill personnel about environmental compliance
- Due Care Plan (Baseline Environmental Assessment)
- Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan
- National Pollution Discharge Elimination System Permit
- Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasures Plan
- Pollution Incident Prevention Plan
- Emergency Spill Response Plan
- Pollution Minimization Plan
- Discharge Monitoring Plan – Quality Assurance
- Renewable Operating Permit
- Excess Emissions and Downtime Report
- Mill Production Rate Reporting
- CEMS RATA Testing
- Greenhouse Gas Monitoring Plan
- Michigan Air Emissions Reporting
- Assistance with PTI Revisions as needed
- Maintenance scheduling and activities for CEMS equipment
- Participation in Kalamazoo River/Lake Allegan Watershed Cooperative Agreement for the reduction of Phosphorous Loading (TMDL)
- SARA Title III, Emergency Planning, and Release Reporting
- EIA923 Department of Energy Reporting
Qualifications
- Business-minded, people and results oriented individual with a strong emphasis on safety and quality
- No significant performance / attendance infractions within the last 36 months
- A degree in a related field is preferred
- Must have industrial stormwater operator certification
- Must have wastewater operator certification in the following: A-1b, A-1h, B-2a, and C-1b or be able to obtain them within a year of starting
Rate of pay may be adjusted based on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
