Ceiling Sales Training Lead

Position Overview:
USG Corporation is seeking a dynamic and experienced Ceilings Training Lead to serve as the subject matter expert on training and development for our USG Ceilings business unit. This role will lead the creation and facilitation of training materials on ceiling products and selling skills to ensure our sales, customer service teams, and customers are well-versed in USG ceiling products and systems.
Key Accountabilities:
Training Program Development and Implementation For Internal (Ceilings Sales, Sales Operations, and Customer Service) and External Customers:
- Collaborate with Business Unit Leadership, Product Management, Sales Leadership and Commercial Excellence to act as training and development subject matter expert for USG Ceilings
- Conduct a thorough needs analysis to identify the current state of development
- Lead in-person focus group discussions across the U.S. to identify core sales training needs for new and current employees, and to identify areas of opportunity to upskill and reskill employees.
- Determine training needs and requirements by leveraging proven technical product and sales training experience, studying sales data/metrics, current sales results, conferring with Sales leadership, and evaluation data.
- Design and implement learning strategies and programs (including comprehensive product and selling skills training programs) based on internal analysis, industry trends, best practices, and proven selling strategies that enable the ceilings sales team to maximize revenue potential.
- Create training materials, playbooks, e-learning modules, and in-person training sessions (Acoustic University) leveraging a variety of development technologies.
- Lead the delivery of training materials and facilitation of in-person programs through collaboration with both internal Subject Matter Experts (SME’s) and vendor partners
- Provide training using a range of learning experiences, including Instructor-led training (ILT), Virtual Instructor-led Training (VILT), interactive e-learning modules, videos, job aids, gamification, etc.
- Establish communication strategy to drive awareness of development opportunities and to reinforce key learning objectives.
- Administer spending against annual budget
Orientation and Onboarding of New Employees/Customers:
- Coordinate with Regional Sales Managers (RSMs), USG IT, and Human Resources to facilitate orientation of new sales team members
- Assist Regional Sales Managers (RSMs) to conduct onboarding and training sessions for new sales team members and customers to familiarize them with the company’s ceilings products, systems, and resources.
Continuing Education:
- Organize ongoing ceilings training and development sessions in collaboration with product management, sales leadership and sales operations to update sales, customer service, and customers on new products, technologies, strategic selling tools, and industry trends.
Product Knowledge:
- Utilize proven technical product and sales training experience and work with product management to ensure our sales teams have an in-depth knowledge of and resource awareness for ceiling systems, components, installation methods, and troubleshooting techniques tailored to different roles.
Skills Assessment:
- Conduct regular assessments to gauge the knowledge and skills of our sales team.
- Identify areas for improvement and provide targeted training interventions.
Training Metrics and Reporting:
- Track and report on the effectiveness, outcomes, and return on investment of training programs.
Qualifications:
Travel Requirements
- Ability to travel up to 30% to deliver training content, conduct needs assessments, or other activities.
Required Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Education, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years experience in designing and facilitating employee training and development programs.
- Minimum of 5 years of building materials experience with proven technical product knowledge and an understanding of customer needs
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills with the ability to adapt message and content to a variety of audiences.
- Ability to lead, absent a direct reporting relationship to you, other business leaders and functional groups to achieve shared objectives.
- Ability to create engaging and effective training materials.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Proficiency in e-learning platforms and training software (example Articulate 360 -Storyline & Rise).
- Proficient in MS Office and Learning Management System (LMS) - Cornerstone OnDemand a plus
Preferred
- Proven technical understanding of all USG Ceilings products and customer needs including Architectural & Design, Specialty Distribution, Commercial Contractors, and retail ceilings.
- Previous product management, sales and/or sales leadership experience is a plus.
Rate of pay may be adjusted based on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
