Capability transformation
USG is evolving its digital customer experience and translating the objective of being easiest to do business with into a sustainable technology roadmap. The digital transformation includes upgrading our technology stack and augmenting our teams, developing new digital platforms, and integrating a best-in-class eCommerce operating model to deliver exceptional customer experience from design planning to order delivery. The digital services are based on to be improved data and process models and will be provided for all our customers in the US, Canada, and LATAM.
ROLE SUMMARY
The Technology Lead is responsible for the technical implementation and guiding development of product discovery and display features, ensuring consistent and relevant product information being available for customers in a great user experience. The Technology Lead works with cross-functional teams to ensure that search functionality, product listings, and detail pages are fast, accurate, and provide a seamless user experience. This role oversees the PIM platform setup and implementation (interfaces, data flows & data transformation) to ensure product hierarchy and configurations meet technical and business requirements for comprehensive, accurate and consistent product information. The Technology Lead has a real passion for development and a demonstrated appetite for continual learning.
USG offers a hybrid workplace. The office location is Chicago, IL. Minimal travel may be required.
DEFINITION OF THE TEAM
The Product Data and Information Publishing (PIM) team ensures the consistent creation, storage, and publication of relevant product information across the US, Canada, and LATAM, both in systems and on the USG website. Operating in an agile environment, the team is guided by a Product Owner for business needs and overall efforts, while the Technology Lead focuses on technical requirements and execution. Each team, supported by Frontend and Backend Data roles under the tech lead’s guidance, has specific responsibilities. However, all team members share the common goal of delivering industry-leading digital solutions to our customers.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Technical implementation: Lead the technical implementation of “product data” related features, including search functionality, product listings, and detail pages, ensuring robust, scalable, and high-performing solutions.
- PIM Platform & Search engine ownership: Responsible for configuration, extensions and tech ops of the PIM & Search platform, ensuring it meets technical and business requirements
- Performance optimization: Ensure search functionality, product listings, and detail pages are fast, accurate, and provide a seamless user experience
- Data integrity: Ensure that product hierarchy and configurations within the PIM & Search platform are accurate, consistent, and comprehensive
- Technical guidance and management: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers, ensuring best practices are followed to deliver business commitments on time and with quality. Conduct performance reviews and develop talent pipeline
- Integration and management: Ensure seamless integration of technologies, including PIM & Search. Manage the technical aspects of product information management including external publishing
- Team decision making: Foster delivery decision making on the team, but make final decisions when necessary and raise cross-team or transformation wide decisions when required
- Project management: Lead technical projects from conception to completion, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to quality standards. Coordinate with external vendors and partners as needed for the implementation and optimization of technologies
- Security: Apply security best practices to safeguard data and ensure compliance

KEY QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
- Master’s degree or additional certifications in web development, or related areas is a plus
- 5+ years of experience of leading software development projects, management of technical resources, and transformation project experience
- Extensive experience as a delivery and people leader and further as hands-on, technical individual contributor
- Minimum 3-5 years experience as a developer
Required Skills
- Strong technical skills in cloud infrastructure & web development, particularly in implementing search functionality and optimizing product listings and detail pages
- Deep understanding of Product Information Management (PIM) systems, Search engines & modern web technologies and their technical setup and configuration
- Deep understanding of MACH (Microservices, API-first, Cloud-native, and Headless) architecture
- Experience in optimizing website performance, particularly in the context of search functionality and product display
- Proven project management skills with the ability to lead technical projects from inception to completion
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues
- Excellent collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and guide development teams
- Excellent project management skills with the ability to lead technical projects and coordinate with cross-functional teams
Preferred Skills
- Understanding of data governance best practices to maintain the integrity of product information
- Experience with data streaming and the producer/consumer pattern

Rate of pay may be adjusted based on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
