POSITION DESCRIPTION
A position in the Product Stewardship Lab at USG’s Corporate Innovation Center in Libertyville, IL to drive initiatives in the areas of building materials and product safety. The position will report directly to the Laboratory Director and work alongside technical staff specialized in fields of regulatory affairs, risk assessment and analytical as well as other labs and functions.
We are seeking an experienced candidate to drive measurable and impactful programs related to raw material and product safety and work collaboratively with other cross functions to ensure program goals are met. In this role, the candidate will become intimately knowledgeable of USG raw materials, formulations and products in connection to their compliance to USG and regulatory requirements. The candidate will also serve as point of contact in key programs. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated leadership skills along with an ability to influence. Experience with manufacturing, chemical process, and R&D are preferred.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Adhere to all safety and environmental regulations of the corporation. Contribute to a safe work environment and participates in safety initiatives.
- Maintain and administer USG Bulletin Management System to protect and regularly update documentation of USG procedures. Engage in continuous improvement of BMS platform.
- Manage Safety Data Sheet (SDS) program including generating corresponding product labeling content. Engage in continuous improvement of platform.
- Gain in-depth understanding of raw materials used in the business, their chemistries and impacts on product performance and health and safety.
- Review of literature data, toxicological studies, and health and safety data to support safety assessment, risk and hazard evaluations for substances and/or products.
- Continuously monitor changes in regulations to understand their impact on USG products and operations.
- Develop sustaining relationships with internal and external customers to effectively communicate appropriate hazards, key regulatory issues and support USG businesses.
- Conduct analytical testing as necessary in support of raw material safety assessment or product analysis/investigations.
- Clearly communicate both verbally and written and maintain up to date documentation of activities.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Environmental Health & Safety, or related field.
- Experience working in a regulatory affairs or product compliance/stewardship function.
- Experience working with SDS authoring software and labeling systems.
- Working knowledge of TSCA, Prop 65 and other chemical inventories and laws.
- Experience with database management, with intermediate to advanced knowledge in Microsoft applications and SharePoint.
- Knowledge of chemical manufacturing, R&D operations and consumer products preferred
- Passion to work in the building industry, innovate and contribute new ideas for safer products and environments.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong critical thinking skills with an ability to translate technical information to business requirements.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with experience working with cross-functional teams
- Some travel may be needed.
Rate of pay may be adjusted based on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
