Mechanic - Mobile Equipment Maintenance & Yard Service - Cloquet

Job Description/Duties
· Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
· This position will train cross functionally and float to support department and plant needs in both the truck shop as well as plant services. This will require training on both mobile equipment maintenance as well as operating heavy equipment used by the plant services crew.
· Ensure operation of mobile equipment by completing preventive maintenance and repairs on the following: fork trucks, plant fleet vehicles, plant heavy equipment, shift carts, Cushman carts, AGV’s, Harlan trains/cars, Track-mobile, platform and articulating lifts, sweepers/floor scrubbers, and all small gas engine equipment including motors, pumps, generators, backpack blowers, snowblowers.
· Maintain all USG roads and grounds in a clear and safe condition. Responsibility for maintenance, filling, and supply of all LP tanks for fork trucks. Inspect USG railroad tracks and switches and assist in spotting railroad cars as needed. Responsible for inspection, separation, and haulage of waste materials on USG property.
· Research, review and comply with manuals and manufacturers’ recommended maintenance items and schedules.
· Support department and plant needs by being allocated to maintenance down days as required. Will be responsible for repairing machinery and equipment by completing preventive maintenance and repairs on motors, pneumatic tools, hydraulic systems, conveyor systems, and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer’s instructions and engineering specifications.
· Conserve maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
· Maintain technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing technical publications.
· Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
· Mechanical/Technical Understanding – Mechanical Fundamentals: mechanics, lubrication, understanding maintenance documents, fuel systems, cooling systems, vehicle electrical systems, pumps, welding/cutting (stick, mig, tig and torch), pumps, piping systems. Mechanical power transmission: basic mechanics, bearings. Hydraulic power transmission: basic hydraulics, hydraulic troubleshooting. Basic pneumatics: Pneumatic principles, Reciprocating Compressors, Rotary Compressors, Piping, Hoses and Fittings, directional control valves, pressure control valves, pneumatic cylinders, pneumatic motors.
Job Qualifications
· Safety and housekeeping are the first considerations in all activities. The employee must consistently demonstrate an understanding of all plant and departmental safety rules, standards, and programs.
· Must have a valid Driver’s license issued by the State of primary residence.
· Knowledge of vehicle maintenance and ability to operate heavy equipment preferred.
· Responsible for performing all assignments as delegated by the Supervisor.
· Normal working schedule is 6a – 2p, Monday thru Friday, but can be adjusted to include nights and weekends, and OT may be required based on plant and departmental needs. Operating schedule is subject to change based on business levels.

· Must have regular and predictable attendance
· Must have ability to safely operate plant mobile equipment and plant services heavy equipment.
· Report any unsafe condition or defective equipment to your supervisor immediately.
· Have ability to understand verbal and written instructions from plant supervision and efficiently and effectively perform assigned tasks.
· Responsible for maintaining a set of personal tools as required by the maintenance department.
· Must be able to perform the essential physical requirements necessary for this job area, which may include lifting items 49 lbs. or less, working in extreme temperatures, and negotiating uneven terrain, ramps, steps and ladders.
· Demonstrate knowledge of when, where and how to use standard and specialized personal protective equipment (PPE)
· Demonstrate knowledge of all department emergency procedures and location and use of emergency equipment.
· Demonstrate ability to protect himself/herself and co-workers from potential safety hazards.
· Demonstrate ability to cooperate with other workers in the areas of safety, quality, and production/maintenance and understand importance of completing assigned tasks and their relationship to other requirements.
· Must complete the mechanical skills assessment.
Rate of pay may be adjusted based on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
